This glorious confection, based on the Doge’s Palace in Venice, was indeed a carpet factory when built in 1892. Now a boring old business centre, its still a visual delight and a Glasgow landmark.

Campbeltown Picture House
Campbeltown Picture House celebrated its 100th birthday on May 26th, with a gala performance of The Great Gatsby, a pipe band, and fireworks over the harbour. See my prequel to the event – I didn’t blog about it at the time. Here’s a BBC news report to make amends, filmed some time after.
Distillery
A daily photo challenge is harder than it sounds, given that I seem to have run out of subjects within walking distance of my flat. You can only take so many photos of the same thing before it gets boring. So I’m grateful for this fine, handsome, disused distillery building. And surprised, because I didn’t know it was there.

Flash Mob at Seattle Public Library
These days you can’t go anywhere in public without tripping over a flash mob – and frankly I’m underwhelmed by the actual dancing – so this video is more about brilliant architecture. Though the two sour-faced customers filmed leaving did amuse me. Seattle Public Library, designed by Rem Koolhaas, is a glorious bit of bling that works superbly as a library. I spent many happy hours there.
