The Nazis are back. Not that they ever left, judging by the plethora of films about WWII in general and the Nazis in particular. The latest is a Finnish science fiction satire, in which they fly to the dark side of the Moon in 1945, returning to invade Earth in 2018.
The surrealism of this film reminds me of The Iron Dream, a 1972 science fiction novel by Norman Spinrad. It’s an alternative history, in which Adolf Hitler emigrated to America in the 1920s and became a pulp science fiction writer. The Iron Dream is a visualization of his fantasies of world domination. Well worth reading.
Iron Sky is directed by Timo Vuorensola, and features a Palinesque US President. The film will be showcased at the Berlinale in March, and go on general release on April 4. I can’t wait. For your delectation, here is the Berlin trailer.
